Allergies are your body’s way of fending off perceived threats to the system. Dust, mold, pet dander, pollen and other stimuli can trigger your immune responses and result in things like sneezing, hives, wheezing and even asthma. In fact, allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic illness in the United States today with more than 50 million Americans suffering from allergies every year. You don’t need to suffer.

Don’t Suffer Needlessly
Many people suffer needlessly with chronic allergies, attempting to keep them under control with over-the-counter medications. Although these can often help suppress symptoms, they don’t address the cause of the allergy.
At CIMA Medical Center, we address and treat reactions such as
- Hay fever, sinusitis
- Drug and food allergies
- Severe reactions to foods, medications, insect bites known as Anaphylaxis
- Hives and swelling
- Allergic disorders of the eyes or ears
- Sinus headaches
- Eczema
- Contact dermatitis
- Insect allergies
- Recurrent sinus infections
- Asthma
What is Involved in Allergy Testing?
When you meet with our allergy testing and treatment staff, we will make a comprehensive review of your medical history. At that time, we may administer an allergy skin prick test. This will check for allergic reactions to as many of 40 different substances and can identify allergies to common environmental substances such as mold, pollen, pet dander and food. We may also administer a blood test to measure the amount of allergy-causing antibodies in your bloodstream.
Available Treatment Options
When you test for allergies, we have several different treatments available to us. The most obvious and important way to stop allergic reactions is to avoid the allergen altogether. But oftentimes this is not possible. We can then treat the allergy with
- Medication - we will often suggest medications to ease symptoms and immune system response.
- Immunotherapy - we may recommend a series of injections offering gradual doses of the allergen in order to cause the immune system to become less sensitive, reducing allergy symptoms. Another form of immunotherapy is a sublingual drug used to treat some specific allergies.
- Emergency epinephrine - for severe allergies, we recommend that patients carry an emergency dose of epinephrine
If you are diagnosed with asthma, we will work with you to develop your best treatment options and help you manage your condition.
